Christmas
Give the most beautiful gift of Christmas – flowers that brighten up the home.
Order flowersA florist on the Queanbeyan side of the border makes up the bouquet and delivers it Monday to Saturday. Order by 2pm on a weekday or 10am on Saturday, Queanbeyan time, for same-day delivery.
Queanbeyan is the New South Wales town that Canberra grew up next to. Proclaimed a township in 1838, when about 50 people lived here, it now has 37,511 residents (2021 census) on the Queanbeyan River, 15 km south-east of the national capital and 576 metres above sea level. Many of the people who order Queanbeyan flowers from us are in Canberra, Sydney or overseas and want a bouquet on a doorstep in Karabar or Jerrabomberra that afternoon; a local florist makes it up by hand and drives it out.
Delivery covers Queanbeyan itself, Queanbeyan East and West, Karabar across the river with its 8,517 residents, Crestwood, Greenleigh and The Ridgeway, plus the newer suburbs to the south: Jerrabomberra, a master-planned suburb begun in 1988 that now has 9,601 people, and Googong, 10 km south of the town centre, where the first residents arrived in 2014 and the estate is planned to grow to around 18,000. Tralee, Environa and Royalla are covered too, though a rural block is delivered later in the run. In Googong and the newest streets of Jerrabomberra the address may not be on every map yet, so add the recipient's mobile number. For a defence address, including Headquarters Joint Operations Command 15 km east of town, a mobile number is essential because the driver cannot pass the gate. Canberra suburbs are served by Canberra florists and have their own page.
Order before 2pm on a weekday or before 10am on a Saturday, Queanbeyan time, and the bouquet is delivered the same day, Monday to Saturday. Sunday is the one day without deliveries, so a Sunday birthday should arrive on the Saturday. Queanbeyan keeps the same clock as Canberra and Sydney, daylight saving included, so an order from anywhere in New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania or the ACT needs no conversion. From Brisbane it does: Queensland stays on standard time, so from October to April the 2pm Queanbeyan deadline is 1pm in Brisbane, and in winter the clocks match. From Perth it is 11am in summer and noon in winter; from Adelaide 1.30pm all year. Anything ordered after the cut-off is delivered on the next working day, or on a date you pick at checkout.
Queanbeyan Hospital and Health Service is at 107 Collett Street, a 29-bed hospital with a 24-hour emergency department, maternity, an eight-chair day surgery and a renal unit. Ring the ward before you order: intensive care and some wards take no fresh flowers, and give the patient's full name and the ward. Patients who need more specialised care are usually at Canberra Hospital on Yamba Drive, Garran, with 672 beds the largest hospital in the region; the same advice applies there and a Canberra florist makes the delivery. If discharge is close, the family home is the safer address.
Queanbeyan Lawn Cemetery and Memorial Gardens on Lanyon Drive, Jerrabomberra, run by Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council, is where most burials and ashes placements now take place; it has lawn, monumental, garden crypt and bushland sections and is open from sunrise to sunset. The old Riverside Cemetery is closed to new interments apart from reserved plots. Service tributes such as a wreath, casket spray or sheaf are ordered two or three days ahead through the funeral director or a florist near the chapel; delivery to the service itself is never guaranteed, so give the family's home as a second address.
The 129th Queanbeyan Show is on Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 November 2026 at the showground, where a show has been held since 1883. Across the border, Floriade fills Commonwealth Park with about a million bulbs and annuals from 12 September to 11 October 2026, and local florists are busy through both. Mother's Day is Sunday 9 May 2027; because there is no Sunday delivery, the flowers go out on Saturday 8 May with a 10am cut-off, so order early in the week. Valentine's Day is 14 February, in the heat of a Queanbeyan summer, so roses are safest delivered to a workplace or a home where someone can get them into water. Anzac Day on 25 April is a day for a sprig of rosemary on the lapel and a wreath at the service rather than a bouquet. Father's Day is 5 September 2027.
Queanbeyan has an oceanic climate: mean maximums around 20.6 degrees, mean minimums of 6.5, about 594 mm of rain a year and frosty winter nights. Cool nights are good news for cut flowers; a bouquet lasts longer here than in Sydney. Spring brings tulips, ranunculus, peonies and the first sunflowers, summer is dahlia and gerbera season, autumn means dahlias, chrysanthemums and proteas, and winter is the time for tulips, ranunculus and chrysanthemums. Roses are available all year. Ask for a seasonal bouquet and the florist picks what came in freshest that morning.
Hand-tied bouquets start at AUD 75; roses by the dozen and larger arrangements cost more. Delivery is charged at checkout and the card message costs nothing extra.
Did you know? Did you know? Queanbeyan was proclaimed a township in 1838 with about 50 residents, and Googong Dam, 5 km south of town, has supplied both Queanbeyan and Canberra with water since 1977.
