Christmas
Give the most beautiful gift of Christmas – flowers that brighten up the home.
Order flowersFlowers for Parkwood, Arundel, Labrador and Southport, arranged by a Gold Coast florist and delivered Monday to Saturday. Order by 2pm on a weekday or 10am on Saturday, Queensland time, for same-day delivery.
Parkwood is a quiet suburb of detached family homes on the northern Gold Coast, 11 kilometres north-west of Surfers Paradise, with 8,837 residents at the 2021 census and the Parkwood Golf Course on Napper Road at its heart. It is a place where flowers go to a front door rather than a hotel lobby: a birthday in a cul-de-sac, a new baby at Gold Coast University Hospital two tram stops away, a thank-you to a lecturer at Griffith University. A Gold Coast florist makes up the bouquet on the day and a driver brings it to the house.
A Parkwood order covers the whole northern Gold Coast: Parkwood itself, Arundel to the north and west, Southport to the east and south, Molendinar to the south-east and Labrador, with its 18,000 residents on the western shore of the Broadwater, to the north-east. Biggera Waters, Helensvale and the Southport CBD are within the same run. Most addresses here are houses, so the main thing the driver needs is a mobile number in case nobody answers, and a word about any gated estate or locked side gate. For Griffith University's Gold Coast campus on Parklands Drive, Southport, give the building and a phone number; for staff at the hospital, the department rather than the ward.
Gold Coast University Hospital is at 1 Hospital Boulevard, Southport 4215, on the Parkwood side of Southport with its own G:link tram stop between Parkwood East and Griffith University. Gold Coast Private Hospital is at 14 Hill Street, Southport, and Pindara Private Hospital is on Allchurch Avenue, Benowa. Queensland public hospitals commonly bar flowers and potted plants from intensive care, burns, haematology and infectious-diseases wards for patient safety (the Royal Brisbane and Women's publishes exactly that list), so phone the ward before you order. Give the patient's full name and the ward, and if they are likely to be home within a day or two, send the flowers to Parkwood instead.
Same-day delivery runs Monday to Saturday: order before 2pm on a weekday or 10am on a Saturday, Queensland time. There is no delivery on Sundays. Queensland does not change its clocks, so from the first Sunday in October to the first Sunday in April the Gold Coast is an hour behind Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra and Hobart. Someone ordering from Sydney for a Parkwood address in summer therefore has until 3pm Sydney time; from Perth the deadline is noon all year.
The city's big dates are the Gold Coast Marathon in early July, the Gold Coast 500 Supercars through the streets of Surfers Paradise in late October and the Pacific Airshow over the beach. For florists the peaks are the family days. Mother's Day is Sunday 9 May 2027, so bouquets go out on Saturday 8 May with the 10am cut-off; Father's Day is Sunday 5 September 2027, delivered on the Saturday. Valentine's Day, 14 February, falls in the wettest month of the Gold Coast year, with February averaging more than 180 millimetres of rain, so make sure someone will be home. On Anzac Day, 25 April, rosemary and a wreath at the dawn service take the place of a bouquet.
The Gold Coast has a humid subtropical climate: around 1,250 millimetres of rain a year, most of it between November and April, a mean maximum of 25 degrees and winter days that rarely drop below the high teens. Summer favours orchids, anthuriums, gerberas and lisianthus, which stand up to heat; autumn brings chrysanthemums, proteas and leucadendron; the dry winter is the best season for stock, ranunculus, tulips and daffodils; and spring means sweet pea, ranunculus and lisianthus, with a short run of peonies in November and December. Native bunches with proteas and banksia travel well in any month.
The nearest cemeteries are Southport General Cemetery at 237 Queen Street, Southport, run by the City of Gold Coast, and Allambe Memorial Park at 129 Nerang-Broadbeach Road, Nerang, which has two chapels and is where many Gold Coast services are held. Order service flowers two or three days ahead through the funeral director or a florist near the chapel. Delivery to the service itself is never guaranteed, so give the family's home as a second address; a sympathy bouquet to the house in Parkwood, sent a week or two later, is always welcome.
Bouquets start from AUD 75, with larger arrangements and roses by the dozen priced above that. The delivery fee is added at checkout and a card with your message is included.
Did you know? Did you know? Parkwood was known as Ernest until it was named and bounded in September 1989, and the G:link tram has stopped at Parkwood and Parkwood East since December 2017.
