Spring bouquet with colourful flowers – send flowers to Hobart

Hobart sits where the River Derwent widens into its estuary, with kunanyi / Mount Wellington rising 1,271 metres behind the city. It is Australia's coolest capital, which changes what a bouquet looks like here: tulips and peonies arrive weeks later than on the mainland, roses last longer in the mild summer, and winter is when the city is busiest, thanks to Dark Mofo. Whether the flowers are for a flat in Battery Point, a new grandmother in Kingston or a colleague at the Royal Hobart, we pass your order to a florist in Hobart who makes it up fresh and delivers it by hand.

How same-day delivery works in Hobart

Same-day delivery runs Monday to Saturday. Place the order before 2pm on a weekday, or before 10am on a Saturday, in Hobart time and the florist delivers that afternoon. Nothing is delivered on Sundays, so a Sunday occasion is best covered on the Saturday. Tasmania keeps daylight saving from the first Sunday in October to the first Sunday in April, in step with Victoria, New South Wales and the ACT, so an order from Melbourne or Sydney faces the same clock. Ordering from Brisbane in summer is different: Queensland stays on standard time, so 2pm in Hobart is already 1pm in Brisbane. From Perth the gap is two to three hours, which makes a morning order the safe choice all year round.

Suburbs on both sides of the river

Delivery covers the Hobart city side first: Battery Point, Sandy Bay, South Hobart, West Hobart, North Hobart, New Town, Lenah Valley, Mount Stuart, Dynnyrne and Mount Nelson, plus Fern Tree and Ridgeway up the mountain road. The northern suburbs of Moonah, Lutana, Glenorchy, Montrose, Rosetta, Claremont, Berriedale and Austins Ferry follow the Main Road and the Brooker Highway. Across the Tasman Bridge the Eastern Shore is covered as well: Rosny, Bellerive, Montagu Bay, Lindisfarne, Geilston Bay, Howrah, Tranmere, Rokeby and Lauderdale. To the south, Taroona, Kingston, Kingston Beach and Blackmans Bay are part of the normal run. Bridgewater, Old Beach, Brighton, Midway Point and Sorell are further out and may be delivered later in the day. For an apartment on the waterfront or in Sandy Bay, include the unit number and a mobile number so the driver can be let in; steep streets in West and South Hobart often have the letterbox a long way from the door, so a phone number helps there too.

Get-well flowers to the Royal Hobart, Hobart Private and Calvary

The Royal Hobart Hospital is at 48 Liverpool Street in the city centre, and Hobart Private Hospital is a short walk away on the corner of Argyle and Collins Streets. Calvary Lenah Valley Hospital, Tasmania's largest private hospital, is at 49 Augusta Road, Lenah Valley. Ring the ward before you order: intensive care and some wards take no fresh flowers, and a few prefer arrangements in a vase rather than a hand-tied bunch. Give the patient's full name and the ward on the order. If the stay is short, send the flowers to the home a day or two after discharge instead, when there is somebody there to enjoy them.

Hobart's flower calendar

Hobart's big dates are spread across the year. Dark Mofo takes over the city in the middle of winter; the 2026 festival ran from 11 to 22 June and the 2027 dates had not been published when we checked, so expect mid-June. The Royal Hobart Show falls in late October, with its public holiday for southern Tasmania on Thursday 22 October 2026 and Thursday 21 October 2027. The summer season opens with the Sydney to Hobart fleet arriving at Constitution Dock in the days after Boxing Day, and Taste of Summer runs on the waterfront at Princes Wharf No. 1 from 27 December 2026 to 3 January 2027. Mother's Day, the second Sunday in May, is 9 May 2027: the busiest flower day of the year, delivered on Saturday 8 May because there is no Sunday run, so the cut-off is 10am on the Saturday. Father's Day is 5 September 2027. Valentine's Day on 14 February is mild in Hobart compared with the mainland, so roses travel well. On Anzac Day, 25 April, Tasmanians wear a sprig of rosemary rather than carry a bouquet, and wreaths for the dawn service are ordered from a florist several days ahead.

Cool-climate flowers: what is in season in Tasmania

Hobart has a cool oceanic climate with an average of only 565 millimetres of rain a year, a record high of 41.8 degrees and a record low of minus 2.8. Spring comes late: Tasmania's tulip fields at Table Cape near Wynyard bloom from late September to the end of October, and Tasmania's peony farms, home to the largest collection in the country, pick for just six to eight weeks from November. Summer (December to February) brings roses, lilies and dahlias; autumn (March to May) is chrysanthemums, dahlias and the first proteas; winter (June to August) is the season for hellebores, daffodils and natives such as banksia, leucadendron and kangaroo paw. If you want whatever is freshest, choose a seasonal bouquet and let the florist decide on the morning.

Cemeteries, chapels and sympathy flowers in Hobart

Cornelian Bay Cemetery on Queens Walk, opened in 1872 and the oldest cemetery in Tasmania still in use, hosts most of Hobart's burials and is run by Millingtons, who also operate the Eastern Shore crematorium and memorial gardens at 25 McIntyre Street, Mornington. Casket sprays, wreaths and sheaves for a service are best ordered two or three days ahead through the funeral director or a florist; delivery to the service itself is never guaranteed, so give the family's home as a second address. A sympathy bouquet to the house can follow in the weeks after, when visitors have stopped coming.

Prices, delivery fee and card

Hand-tied bouquets from a Hobart florist start at AUD 75. The delivery fee is added at checkout depending on the suburb, and a card with your message is included with every order.

Do you deliver flowers to Kingston and the Eastern Shore?
Yes. Kingston, Kingston Beach, Blackmans Bay and Taroona to the south, and Bellerive, Rosny, Lindisfarne, Howrah, Tranmere and Rokeby across the Tasman Bridge, are all on the normal Hobart run. Sorell, Midway Point, Brighton and Bridgewater are covered too but may be delivered later in the day.
What is the cheapest way to send flowers to Hobart?
A seasonal hand-tied bouquet from AUD 75 is the best value, because the florist uses what is plentiful in Tasmania that week: tulips in October, peonies in November, dahlias in autumn, natives in winter. The delivery fee for the suburb shows at checkout before you pay.
Can flowers be delivered to the Royal Hobart Hospital?
