Give the most beautiful gift of Christmas – flowers that brighten up the home.
Order flowersAn East Gippsland florist delivers Monday to Saturday to Bairnsdale, Wy Yung, Lucknow, Eastwood and Eagle Point. Weekday orders in by 2pm, or 10am on Saturday, Victorian time, are delivered the same day.
Bairnsdale is the service town for East Gippsland, 279 km east of Melbourne on the Mitchell River, 49 metres above the Gippsland Lakes and 40 km from Lakes Entrance. It was established in 1860 on Gunaikurnai country, home of the Tatungalung clan, and 15,684 people lived here at the 2021 census. Visitors remember two things: the painted interior of St Mary's Catholic church, which draws up to 80,000 people a year, and the garden strip that runs down the middle of Main Street for roughly four kilometres. A town that keeps a four-kilometre flowerbed on its main road is a good town to send flowers to, and the florist who delivers them is local.
The delivery run covers Bairnsdale and East Bairnsdale, Wy Yung and Lucknow on the northern edge, Eastwood, Hillside, Forge Creek and Goon Nure to the south, and out along the river to Eagle Point and Paynesville on the Lakes. Lindenow, the vegetable-growing flats west of town, is covered too, as is the country in between, with farms delivered after the town. For a farm or a property on the Lakes, give the property name, a mobile number and a note on where to leave the flowers if nobody is home. Lakes Entrance is a separate run and may be next-day. Residential aged care is one of the town's biggest employers, so if the recipient is in a care home, add the room or wing and the facility's phone number.
Order by 2pm on a weekday or 10am on a Saturday, Victorian time, and the bouquet is delivered that day, Monday to Saturday; there is no Sunday delivery. Victoria is on daylight saving from October to April. For a sender in Brisbane that means the Bairnsdale cut-off is 1pm your time in summer and 2pm in winter; from Perth it is 11am in summer and noon in winter; from Adelaide it is 1.30pm all year round. Orders after the cut-off are delivered the next working day or on a date you nominate.
Bairnsdale Regional Health Service is at 122 Day Street, Bairnsdale 3875, and runs the emergency department, surgery, maternity, dialysis and oncology for the whole of East Gippsland. Ring the ward before you order, because intensive care and some wards take no fresh flowers; give the patient's full name and the ward, and if the patient is likely to go home within a day or two, send the flowers to the house instead. Patients transferred to Melbourne for specialist care can be reached through those hospitals' own pages with us.
Bairnsdale Cemetery is on Government Road, off Forge Creek Road, south of the town, and is run by the Bairnsdale Cemetery Trust. Service flowers, whether a wreath, a sheaf or a casket spray, are ordered two or three days ahead through the funeral director or an East Gippsland florist. As delivery to the service itself is never guaranteed, give the family's home as a second address. A bouquet to the home in the weeks afterwards is as welcome as anything sent on the day.
The Bairnsdale Show is on 6 and 7 November 2026. The East Gippsland Field Days at Bairnsdale Aerodrome, run by the Lindenow Lions Club since 1986, fill two days each April with eight to ten thousand visitors (10 and 11 April in 2026). Mother's Day is Sunday 9 May 2027; as there is no Sunday delivery, flowers go out on Saturday 8 May with a 10am cut-off. Valentine's Day is 14 February, Anzac Day on 25 April is a day for rosemary and wreaths at the cenotaph rather than bouquets, and Father's Day is Sunday 5 September 2027. The Lakes Entrance Running Festival on 31 October and 1 November 2026 brings a crowd to the coast, and a bouquet at the finish line is a nicer surprise than a medal.
Bairnsdale is mild for inland Victoria, with a mean maximum of 20 degrees, a mean minimum of 8 and around 644 mm of rain a year, drier than Melbourne. That suits a long rose season from late spring to autumn, and the Lindenow flats show how well things grow here. In Victoria dahlias flower from February to May, which makes them the natural Mother's Day stem; peonies have a short run in November; winter brings tulips, ranunculus, daffodils and the proteas and leucadendrons that handle the frosts. Order a seasonal bouquet and the florist picks what is best on the day.
Bouquets begin at AUD 75, the delivery fee is added in the checkout and your card message is included.
Did you know? Did you know? The painted murals inside St Mary's Catholic church on Main Street draw up to 80,000 visitors to Bairnsdale every year.
