Christmas
Give the most beautiful gift of Christmas – flowers that brighten up the home.
Order flowersArranged by a Wollongong florist and delivered by hand Monday to Saturday, from the northern beaches to Dapto. Same-day delivery for orders in before 2pm on a weekday or 10am on Saturday, New South Wales time.
Wollongong is squeezed onto a narrow coastal plain between the Tasman Sea and the Illawarra Escarpment, 85 km south of Sydney, a city of just over 300,000 people in its metropolitan area (2021 census) and the third largest in New South Wales. It is a steel town, a university town and a surf town at once, with Port Kembla's works at one end, a campus of 33,000 students under Mount Keira and a string of beaches running north to the Sea Cliff Bridge. Flowers ordered through us are made up by a florist in the Gong and delivered the same day across all of it.
Ordering flowers online for Wollongong covers a long strip of suburbs. In the north the run takes in Helensburgh, Thirroul, Austinmer, Bulli, Woonona, Bellambi, Corrimal and Fairy Meadow; in the centre North Wollongong, Wollongong itself, Keiraville, Gwynneville, Mangerton and Figtree; and to the south Unanderra, Berkeley, Warrawong, Port Kembla, Dapto, Horsley and Kanahooka around Lake Illawarra. Shellharbour and Kiama further south are delivered less often and can take an extra day. Give the suburb as well as the street, because several street names repeat along the coast, and note that a few Wollongong addresses need more than a street number. The University of Wollongong's main campus is in Keiraville; for a student in college accommodation add the college name and a mobile number, since residences will not sign for flowers. Apartment towers along Crown Street and the foreshore have intercoms and locked lobbies, so the recipient's phone number is essential. Deliveries to BlueScope at Port Kembla and other industrial sites go to the gatehouse or main reception, not to the floor, and the person needs to know they are coming. Nan Tien Temple in Berkeley receives flowers at its front office.
Same-day delivery runs Monday to Saturday when the order is placed before 2pm on a weekday or 10am on a Saturday, Wollongong time. There is no Sunday delivery. New South Wales uses daylight saving from the first Sunday in October to the first Sunday in April, so during those months a sender in Queensland has an hour less than the clock on the wall suggests: 2pm in Wollongong is 1pm in Brisbane. From Perth the cut-off is 11am in summer and noon in winter; from Adelaide it is 1.30pm all year; from Melbourne, Canberra and Hobart the clocks match Wollongong exactly.
Wollongong Hospital, the tertiary referral hospital for the Illawarra and Shoalhaven with more than 500 beds and an emergency department that sees around 50,000 patients a year, is at 348 Crown Street, Wollongong 2500, on the hill above the city centre. Wollongong Private Hospital is next door at 360-364 Crown Street, and South Coast Private is on Burelli Street. Further out, Bulli District Hospital is on Hospital Road, Bulli, and Shellharbour Hospital at Mount Warrigal serves the southern suburbs. Telephone the ward before you order: intensive care, coronary care and some other wards take no fresh flowers, and maternity usually prefers a small arrangement. Give us the patient's full name and the ward, and if they are being discharged, send the flowers home.
The Illawarra Folk Festival turns 40 at Bulli Showground from 15 to 17 January 2027, and Yours and Owls, Wollongong's biggest music festival, is on the city foreshore on 3 and 4 October 2026. Mother's Day is Sunday 9 May 2027 and the busiest flower day of the Wollongong year; bouquets are delivered on Saturday 8 May with a 10am cut-off. Father's Day is Sunday 5 September 2027. Valentine's Day on 14 February falls in the humid late summer, so roses should go where they can be put in water quickly. Anzac Day on 25 April is marked at the dawn service with rosemary and wreaths rather than bouquets, and university graduation weeks bring a steady run of bouquets to Keiraville.
Wollongong has an oceanic climate: mild winters, warm rather than hot summers and about 1,320 mm of rain a year, most of it from January to March. That gentle weather is kind to cut flowers almost year-round. Spring brings ranunculus, stock, sweet pea, roses and the waratah, the state emblem, which grows wild on the escarpment; peonies have a short run in November. Summer is lilies, gerberas, alstroemeria and dahlias, which flower on into autumn alongside chrysanthemums and the first tulips. Winter is the season for proteas, leucadendron, banksia, iris and orchids. Wollongong Botanic Garden in Keiraville, opened in 1970, keeps a rose garden that shows the local rose season at its best from late spring to autumn. A seasonal bouquet lets the florist use the morning's freshest stems.
Wollongong's two main burial grounds are the Wollongong City Memorial Gardens in Berkeley, on the southern side of the city, and Lakeside Memorial Park in Kanahooka near Dapto, both of which host chapel services. Casket sprays, wreaths and sheaves are ordered two to three days ahead through the funeral director or a florist near the chapel. Since delivery to the service itself is never something we can guarantee, give the family's home as a second address. A sympathy bouquet to the home, sent a week or two later when the house has gone quiet, is often the one that is remembered.
Hand-tied bouquets start at AUD 75; roses by the dozen, large arrangements and native bunches cost more. The delivery fee for the suburb is added at checkout and a card with your message is included.
Did you know? Did you know? The Illawarra Escarpment behind Wollongong rises to between 150 and 750 metres, and rockfalls from it closed the coast road until the Sea Cliff Bridge opened out over the water in 2005.
