Byron Bay is a small town with a very large reputation: about 6,300 permanent residents (2021 census) at the easternmost point of mainland Australia, 772 km north of Sydney and 165 km south of Brisbane, visited by some two million people a year. Cape Byron and its 1901 lighthouse draw half a million of them alone. Flowers ordered here go to holiday houses and hinterland farms as often as to family homes, and a florist in Byron knows the difference.
The town itself, Suffolk Park 5 km south along Tallow Beach, Broken Head beyond it, Ewingsdale, Skinners Shoot, Coopers Shoot and Tyagarah are all on the daily run. Bangalow, 14 km south-west in the hills, is covered from Byron as well, as are Brunswick Heads, Mullumbimby, Ocean Shores and New Brighton in the north of the Shire, usually later in the day. Lennox Head and Ballina belong to the next shire south and have their own florists. A large share of Byron deliveries go to people who do not live there. For a holiday rental, give the property name as it appears on the booking, the street address and the guest's mobile number, because many houses are unmarked and keys are in lockboxes. Hinterland properties often have long drives and locked gates; tell us the gate code or ask the recipient to expect a call. Resorts and retreats take flowers at reception, so add the guest's name and room or villa.
Same-day delivery is available Monday to Saturday for orders placed before 2pm on a weekday or 10am on a Saturday, Byron Bay time. There is no Sunday delivery. Byron is in New South Wales and follows daylight saving from the first Sunday in October to the first Sunday in April, while Queensland, less than an hour up the highway, does not. If you are ordering from the Gold Coast, Brisbane or anywhere in Queensland in summer, you have less time than your watch suggests: 2pm in Byron is 1pm in Coolangatta, so order by 1pm Queensland time. From Perth the cut-off is 11am in summer and noon in winter; from Adelaide it is 1.30pm all year round.
Byron Central Hospital is at 84 Ewingsdale Road, Ewingsdale 2481, about 5 km from the town centre beside the Pacific Motorway interchange. Ring the ward before ordering, because intensive care and some other wards take no fresh flowers, and give us the patient's full name and the ward. Serious cases from Byron are frequently moved to larger hospitals in Lismore or Tweed Heads, so check where the person actually is. If discharge is a day away, send to the home or the holiday house instead.
Byron is one of Australia's busiest wedding towns, and Saturday deliveries to Bangalow halls and hinterland estates are booked solid in the cooler months, so a bouquet for a wedding guest or a thank-you to the couple should be ordered days ahead. Corporate flowers for a retreat, a conference dinner or a wellness opening are delivered to the venue's reception with the organiser's name. On the calendar, the Byron Bay Triathlon is held on the second Saturday in May, the same weekend as Mother's Day in most years; Mother's Day 2027 is Sunday 9 May, delivered on Saturday 8 May with a 10am cut-off. The Byron Writers Festival, which marked 30 years in 2026, takes over the town for a sold-out weekend each year. Father's Day is Sunday 5 September 2027; Valentine's Day on 14 February falls in the hottest, wettest stretch of the year; and Anzac Day on 25 April is marked with rosemary and a wreath, not a bouquet.
Byron's climate is humid subtropical, with summer maximums around 28 degrees, winter maximums near 19 and about 1,500 mm of rain a year, heaviest in January and again in April. Flowers that love that warmth, including orchids, heliconias, gingers, frangipani and native foliage, do well here all summer, while roses and peonies are best in the drier, cooler months from late autumn to spring. Winter is the friendliest season for a vase: proteas, leucadendron, banksia, iris and carnations keep for a week or more. Spring brings ranunculus, stock and roses by the armful, and autumn chrysanthemums, dahlias and the first tulips. Ask for a seasonal bouquet and the florist picks from what arrived that morning.
Byron Bay General Cemetery lies on the inland side of town, reached from Cemetery Road, and there are smaller cemeteries at Bangalow, Mullumbimby and Brunswick Heads for families from those towns. Funeral tributes, from a casket spray to a simple sheaf, are ordered two or three days ahead through the funeral director or a florist near the chapel. Arrival at the service itself can never be guaranteed, so give the family's home as a second address. A sympathy bouquet to the house is just as welcome in the quieter weeks after the funeral.
Bouquets start at AUD 75. Roses by the dozen, large arrangements and native bunches cost more; the Byron Bay delivery fee is added at checkout and a card with your message is included.
Did you know? Did you know? Cape Byron Light, built in 1901, is Australia's most powerful lighthouse at 2.2 million candelas and draws more than 500,000 visitors a year.
